There are water/dustproof phones, and then there’s this phone, the CAT S60. The company behind this phone is famous for making industrial machines that can carry out heavy-duty tasks with ease. People working in such environments need a phone as strong as their machines the company must have thought. Hence, the CAT S60.
The CAT S60 goes far beyond the definition of rugged phones. Its exteriors feature strengthened die-cast frame that can survive drops from up to 1.8m and conforms to MIL-SPEC 810G standards. It can be operated between the temperature range of -25°C (-13°F) to 55°C (131°F) and survive Category 4 vibrations. It’s also IP68 certified which means it can survive underwater up to 5M and for 1 hour. It will not win any awards for looks nor it is any lighter at 223 gms.
The center of attraction (quite literally) is its camera. While the phone should capture decent photos in the normal world with its 13MP camera, it can also capture thermal images when and where needed. It makes it suitable for industrial use than consumer photography.
A phone has to be a phone first. The CAT S60 fits the criteria effortlessly. There’s Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt memory. The 4.7-inch display has 720p HD resolution and is super bright with 540 nits. It has quite sufficient 3,800 mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0. It even has dual SIM 4G LTE support.
The CAT S60 with its ruggedness doesn’t come cheap. It costs a whopping INR 65,000 (~US$630). But for what it offers, that’s expected.
