Windows phone 8 general distribution release 2 aka GDR2 is now available for Nokia Lumia handsets, well sort of. The firmware files for Lumia 920 and 820 can now be downloaded and flashed via Nokia Software Updater tool. Windows phone 8 GDR2 also brings Nokia’s so called Amber update. Amber comes with a plethora new features and improved camera algorithm and it’s said to increase the level of image details of Nokia’s last year camera flagship. As a reminder, Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 also ship with GDR2 and Amber combo.

Here at WPCentral forum you will find the instructions on how to flash your Lumia. Before you do make sure you’ve backed up your music, videos and other stuffs. It’ll completely erase your phone memory so you have to begin from start. But we recommend our readers to wait  as it’ll come as an OTA update in a few weeks. Flashing your device is always dangerous and you may brick your device. And it’s also voids your warranty.

GDR2 and Amber bring some small but useful features. Like FM radio, Nokia Glance screen, Caldav support, flip to silence, improved camera algorithm, Smartcam, Nokia color profile and fix for Other storage. All Windows phone 8 hardwares(Lumia in case of Amber) are expected to recieve the update in coming days.
