Gionee Kicks Off Phone Production in India With F103October 16, 2015
Companies, especially the phone makers are taking the interest in producing phones in India. Thanks to the Indian government’s Make in India initiative which pushes for local production. Gionee has joined the bandwagon, too.
The Gionee F103 marks the start of the company’s ‘Make in India’ efforts. It has joined the hands with Foxconn to manufacture its phones, which has a plant in Andhra Pradesh, India.
The Gionee F103 is a mid-range phone by the company. It is targeted at people who want a premium design in their budget. As such, it features mirror glass finish back. It’s powered by MediaTek’s 1.3GHz quad-core processor and has 2GB RAM. It has a 5 inch HD 720p display covered by the Dragontrail glass. There’s 4G LTE connectivity as well with full support for Indian bands (obviously). It has an 8MP rear camera as well as 5MP front camera.
All sounds good, but Gionee is little too ambitious with the pricing of F103. It will set you back by Rs.9,999 (~$155). Indeed, as a ‘Made in India’ phone, it should have been cheaper. Especially when there are much better alternatives just around Rs.7,000 ($110). Let’s hope Gionee finds buyers for this one.
