Android Wear is Google’s OS For WearablesMarch 19, 2014
Google has unveiled its latest product, Android Wear, an operating system to power wearables (read:smartwatches). With Android Wear, Google has officially entered the market and war of the wearable computing. Android Wear is the extension of Google’s already dominant Android OS. Android Wear promises to cut the crap and show what you need when you need it, contextual alerts. Android Wear also focuses on your health and fitness which is also its key point. Smartwatches using Android Wear will be able to recognize and answer user queries with always listening approach, by just saying “Ok, Google”.
Google has said it’s working with industry majors such as Samsung, LG, Motorola etc. to bring smartwatches running on Android Wear later this year. Meanwhile, Motorola has already announced its Moto 360 smartwatch running on the Android Wear platform.
For developers, there’s Android Wear developer preview available already at developer.android.com/wear . This will let devs customize their apps tow work seamlessly with the new platform.
