Google at the very last moment announced that they are extending the support for ActiveSync until 31st July 2013. Google was supposed to end the support on 30th January 2013. This would have affected only new connections while already connected Google accounts would continue to work. This comes as a sigh of relief for large number of Windows Phone users who were worried about the Google’s decision of discontinuing the use of ActiveSync. It does not at all mean that it is specific to Windows Phone only, rather ActiveSync support will also be extended for every device that implements it. It would have put all those users in the poor state by means of not able to sync Google contacts and calendar on their devices. Meanwhile Microsoft has also said that they are working on implementing the CalDAV and CardDAV protocols which Google uses to sync their services. Once it’s done, it’ll allow Windows Phone users to access Google services even after 31st July 2013. For the other platforms it’ll be upto the makers to support new standard or not.
