Meizu’s MX5 which came out as a flagship is barely few months old and the company has launched another to carry the flagship tag. The latest Meizu PRO 5, which is also the first in PRO series, has it all to be a flagship. It’s bigger and better.
The design is typical Meizu, similar to what we have seen on its m2 Note or MX5. PRO 5’s unibody, crafted in metal design will be likened by anyone who loves premium designs. It will come in gray, silver-white, sliver-black and rose-gold colors.
Meizu PRO 5 has Samsung Exynos 7420 octa-core processor which it shares with Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6. Meizu’s flagship will come in two RAM/memory variants – 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. To complement this setup and improve performance, it also uses faster UFS 2.0 chip for internal memory.
Meizu PRO 5 has a Sony made 21.7MP camera with 6P LARGAN lens and has Phase Detection as well as laser AF. Sony uses this same module on its Xperia Z5 series. The front camera settles for 5MP resolution. PRO 5 comes with a fingerprint scanner.
Unlike most other flagships with 2K HD displays, Meizu PRO 5 goes for a 1080 FullHD, AMOLED unit. Lower resolution and power-efficient AMOLED display would need lesser juice from the battery. By the way, it has a reasonably big 3050 mAh battery with proprietary mCharge 2.0 which can charge the battery up to 65% in 30 mins.
Meizu has made sure its flagship doesn’t fade off in entertainment with Hi-Fi Sound 2.0. It uses high-quality components for this purpose. But it’s only the 64GB variant that will come with in-box headphones (EP-31). Meizu PRO 5 can house two memory cards with 4G LTE for both of them. It also has USB Type-C connector (not really USB Type-C).
Meizu PRO 5’s price starts at 2,799 Chinese Yuan or ~$440 for 32GB and 3,099 Chinese Yuan or ~$480 for 64GB version. It will go on (flash) sale on October 12 and prior registration is needed to be able to buy it.
