Micromax Yureka Is A Budget Freaker’s Paradise 2

Cyanogen is a big thing in Android community. If you know an Android geek friend (there are other types too), chances are that he started it with Cyanogen. Cyanogen gets geeks excited. So how about a device that gives you everything Cyanogen is famous for, fits in your budget and has great specs?

If that’s what you want, Yureka, a Cyanogen based phone launched by Yu, a subsidiary of Micromax, should totally excite you. Yeah, it’s the same company at the heart of OnePlus-Cyanogen controversy. Report of its developments emerged a while back. Handset packs a Snapdragon 615 1.5GHz octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. There’s a 5.5 inch HD display, 13MP rear snapper, 5MP front camera and a 2500 mAh battery. It also has 4G LTE connectivity and it’s dual SIM too with 3G on second SIM. And price for this package? Just INR 8,999 ($143). Tell me you’re not excited to get one. Wait, there’s more excitement ahead. Yu will let you customize this phone as you want, be it unlocking bootloader or flashing different ROMs and you’ll still get warranty for your phone. That’s not all, Yu will also provide doorstep service while in the warranty period. Cyanogen 11 (based on Android KitKat) powered phone will receive monthly OTA updates and later a new version based on Android Lollipop.

Micromax-Yureka-Yu

Yu wants to create an ecosystem of developers and users in India and is planning to take developers onboard for its platform. It’ll will also be seeking inputs from users for its future devices.

One thing is sure, this phone is going to disrupt Indian market once again just like Motorola and Xiaomi did a while back. At this point, there’s no other brand that offer same specs at this price point. Yureka is the phone in Indian market to come with 2GB RAM under $150 mark. Some sites claim that it’s a re-badged version of Coolpad F2 but Cyanogen OS sets it apart. It will be interesting to see how other companies tackle this one as Yu has got upper hand with Cyanogen defending its back. It’ll be available exclusively via Amazon India and pre-registrations are necessary which will enable you to participate in the sale happening in January.
