Microsoft fan or not, it’s been a really long for all waiting for Windows 10 flagships. The new mighty and shiny Lumia flagships are finally here. Right on time and with just the right price to take on the other flagships.
The first one is normal sized Lumia 950, and then there’s phablet Lumia 950 XL. Both come bearing the Windows 10, which is same across all Windows products. The great thing is both these phones can transform into full-fledged PCs with the Continuum mode in Windows 10.
Also for the first time ever on any phone, both the Lumia flagships come with “tablet-class” liquid cooling.
I know you’re waiting to hear the specs, so here they are. Both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL have hardware on par with other flagships. Microsoft isn’t staying behind, this time. The smaller one is powered by the hexa-core Snapdragon 808 while the bigger one has an octa-core Snapdragon 810. Both have the same 3GB RAM.
The obvious difference between the both is their screens. The Lumia 950 features a 5.2-inch screen while Lumia 950 XL packs a 5.7-inch screen. These are the AMOLED, ClearBlack units with QuadHD resolution.
Two phones have different batteries as well. Lumia 950 has a 3,000 mAh battery and Lumia 950 XL has a slightly bigger 3,340 mAh battery. They also support Qi wireless charging and fast charging over USB Type-C port.
Both the phones come with 20MP PureView cameras with f/1.9, assisted by triple LED flash and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). They can also record 4K UltraHD videos at 30 fps.
Now here’s the exciting part of these new flagships. Both of them come with fantastic price tags. Lumia 950 will cost just $549 while the phablet Lumia 950 XL comes for just hundred bucks more, that is, $649. In my opinion, Microsoft has pretty much nailed it with the pricing of its flagships. Both of them will also come in dual-SIM variants in some regiona. Microsoft’s flagship phones will be available from November, that is around the holiday season.
