New month, new Motorola phones. It seems Motorola is in blitzkrieg mode it seems as it launches another couple of phones. After Moto Z2 Force and Moto E4, the new Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus are here. The S stands for Special edition.
The new phones improve the already great value for money G series. The Moto G5S even brings the dual camera to a lot lower price point and in the reach of budget conscious buyers. Since both of them are Special edition phones, they both get a slightly upgraded design. The new Moto G5S phones are made up from a single block of aluminum which means no breaks on the back like the preceding models.
The Moto G5S now has a 16MP camera and 3,000 mAh battery. Up from 13MP camera and 2,800 mAh battery on the standard one. The Moto G5S Plus now gets dual camera setup with twin 13MP cameras in which one acts as a depth sensor. Its battery rating remains the same, though at 3,000 mAh. They both have 5MP and 8MP front cameras respectively with selfie flash.
The Moto G5S gets a slightly bigger 5.2-inch display while the G5S Plus now has a 5.5-inch display worth its ‘Plus’ unlike the G5 Plus which had a 5.2-inch display. The resolution for both, however, remains 1080p FullHD. Both Moto G5S phones continue to use the same configurations like the models they succeed. The Moto G5S comes with Snapdragon 430 processor whereas Moto G5S Plus has Snapdragon 625 processor. They will be offered in same RAM/storage configurations like 3GB/16GB for the former and 3GB/32 and 4GB/64GB for the later.
It is not clear if the current Moto G5 phones will be discontinued in favor of the new ones, but looking at the price difference, Motorola might continue to sell them for near future. The new Moto phones will cost slightly more with Moto G5S coming at EUR 249 (~US $294) and Moto G5S Plus at EUR 299 (~US $355). Both the phones will be made available globally later this month.
