Starting from today, users of Windows Phone devices running versions prior to Windows Phone 7.5 a.k.a. Mango will be restricted from using Marketplace in any way. This includes downloading, updating and even reviewing apps. Microsoft had already warned their users and asked them to update to WP7.5 as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience. Those who recently bought their phones (Lumia 800 or Titan II) have WP7.5 preinstalled so their users can relax. But the users of first gen Windows Phone devices (like HTC 7 Mozart) should worry about this. Even if you don’t use lots of apps installing Windows Phone 7.5 is always recommended since it brings lots of changes to the OS and how it works. For those wondering how to update their devices there’s a quick guide by Microsoft itself. Or hint: use Microsoft Zune to install updates.
Are you one of the users still on Windows Phone 7? Are you happy with the Microsoft’s new policy? And are you going to update your devices? Let us know in the comments.
