Announced at the MWC, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is the HMD Global’s flagship for the year 2018. While it doesn’t a totally new model name, the new flagship gets all the serious hardware, software, and design upgrades.
First of all, the Nokia 8 Sirocco features an all-glass design with all curved edges and slimmer bezels. It makes the original Nokia 8 look like a thing of the past, literally.
The major upgrades from the existing the Nokia 8 are the camera and display. The Nokia 8 Sirocco features the 5.5-inch curved pOLED display boasting 2K HD resolution. Its camera comprises of two sensors of different aperture, megapixel count, and purpose. The primary 12MP sensor has f/1.7 aperture and is wide angle, good for low light photography while the secondary 13MP f/2.6 sensor offers 2x optical zoom. Again, the optics come from ZEISS. It gets a brand new camera app that has a true manual mode.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco comes powered with Snapdragon 835 and 6GB RAM and 128GB storage standard. There are no multiple variants. It also features Nokia’s spatial audio recording which utilizes all three microphones.
The 3,260 mAh battery provides all the juice the phone needs and features quick charging as well as Qi wireless charging. The fingerprint sensor is placed below the camera. On the flip-side, Nokia 8 Sirocco lacks the 3.5mm audio jack, so you’ll have to use headphones with USB Type C connector.
It will run Android Oreo out of the box and also joins Google’s Android One initiate to offer a clean interface and quicker updates. The Nokia 8 Sirocco will truly cost a premium with its hefty €749 (~ US $920) price tag.
