Nokia has finally started rolling out the latest Amber update for the whole Lumia series. It was first seen on the Lumia 925. The Amber update is based on the Windows Phone 8’s GDR2 update, which itself brings features like FM Radio, Data Sense etc. Nokia as usual has taken it further by adding some exclusive goodies to the package for Lumia users.
With Amber update, Nokia has tweaked the imaging algorithms to improve color reproduction, noise reduction etc. This update improves the lowlight performance specifically on Lumia 920. The handset will be able to capture better low light photos with ISO level up to 3200 from previous ISO800. It’ll also bring Smart Camera app, which came with Lumia 925 first, to all other Lumia’s now. The Smart Camera offers options like Best Shot, Action Shot, Motion Focus, to name a few. There will be some restrictions depending on the hardware. On the phones like Lumia 720, (which use 1GHz dual core CPU and 512MB RAM), busrt mode will capture only seven images instead of ten like on Lumia 925 and in just 1 MegaPixel resolution instead of five.
Continuing with the imaging, Nokia is also bringing the new Pro Camera app exclusively for PureView devices such as Lumia 920, Lumia 925 and Lumia 928. Nokia has also released Video Trimmer and YouTube Uploader apps for Lumia handsets.
The much awaited Glance Screen feature will also be made available to the earlier Lumia handsets now, except the Lumia 520 and recently released Lumia 625 due to hardware limitations. Amber update will also bring Double Tap to Wake Up and Flip to Silent features to all Lumia phones now. Further, Nokia has also improved their Storage Check app. With the Amber update, Nokia also promises faster map updates.
The update will be made available to the users of Lumia handsets in various regions gradually. It’s available for all existing Windows Phone 8 running Lumia handsets that include Lumia 520, 620, 720, 810, 820, 822, 920, 925, 928 and 1020 and carrier exclusive models such as Lumia 521, 810 and 928. Your phone will notify you automatically of the update or you can check for the update manually by going to ‘Settings’ -> ‘Phone Update’. More over here.
