As a blogger, I was notified of the launch of Obi’s upcoming flagship smartphone. The company said we will witness a stunning design. When it finally launched today, I gotta say, the company kept its word, and it’s worth the hype it created.
Obi’s flagship SF1, named after and also launched in the Silicon Valley, has a design that will instantly make you obsess over it. If you’ve been in smartphones for years, you’d instantly know how it looks like. For those who couldn’t guess, it reminds me of Nokia N9/Lumia 800 fitted inside iPhone like chassis. And it’s not at all bad. The design is pretty attractive. Phones with craftsmanship still exist. It’s been designed by the renowned San Francisco-based product studio Ammunition.
And the design is not the only part of it which should get you excited. The price vs. specs is a big bang, literally. For just $199, Obi SF1 has Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2GB RAM (3GB on 32GB variant) and has an impressive 5 inch FullHD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. There’s a 3000 mAh battery, too. You can expand memory with a microSD card.
Obi is focusing on camera and audio capabilities for its SF1. The 13MP camera uses many camera techs developed by Qualcomm such as UbiFocus and OptiZoom. It also features Dolby Audio 7,1, too. It doesn’t end here as the Obi SF1 also features support for GSM as well CDMA including 4G LTE. Almost a globetrotter. It has two SIM slots, too. Holy cow. It runs on Android Lollipop with ObiLife UI atop.
It will come in two variants: 2GB RAM/16GB storage for $199 and 3GB/32GB will cost $249 which sounds like a fare deal. It will hit the shelves from October in this countries in the first wave: Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Pakistan, Turkey and India. Surprisingly, USA is missing on the list. After all, SF1 is named after San Francisco.
If you’re the one who loves to have beautifully designed phones in the collection, Obi SF1 is the one you shouldn’t miss.
