Open webOS Beta Goes Live


Eight months ago HP had announced that they would keep alive the WebOS by making it open source under the name Open webOS. Today they released the first beta to the public under Apache 2.0 license.

This beta of Open webOS includes 54 components as opensource. This beta comes in two flavors, desktop build which is supported on Ubuntu and second as OpenEmbeded build. The desktop build is supported on Ubuntu  and is able to run SystemManager while OpenEmbeded build provides ARM emulator and supports running core services such as db8 and node.js. In future OE core image is also expected which will boot into ARM Emulator to provide full webOS experience. The desktop build supports third party apps created using Enyo.
