Qualcomm probably had the worst time because of its flawed Snapdragon 810 SoC. You must have heard about all those overheating problems all over the internet. That has made OEMs to consider other options and Qualcomm sure can’t let this continue any longer. In an attempt to lure back its lost clients, Qualcomm has started talking about its new Snapdragon 820 SoC.
At this stage, Qualcomm has chosen to keep essential details such as a number of cores and the architecture under the wraps. It is trying to create some hype around its upcoming SoC this way. It is only talking about the new GPU, and ISP that will integrated with its upcoming processor. So the Snapdragon 820 will have Adreno 530 GPU which Qualcomm says is 40% better at performance than Adreno 430 and uses 40% less power.
The Spectra camera ISP – will be a dual ISP setup. It will support newer 14 bit sensors and cameras up to 25 MP. It will have hybrid autofocus tech and will overall have improved image quality.
I know many of you are holding onto your purchase of new smartphones because of Snapdragon 810, but Snapdragon 820 isn’t coming this year. Not until the first half of 2016 which is too broad. And for Qualcomm, it’s going to be ‘do or die’ when Snapdragon 820 finally makes an appearance in next year flagships.
