The Redmi 5A, the successor to yesteryear’s Redmi 4A, made a global debut today in India. With Redmi 5A, Xiaomi is looking to put the best value for money smartphone in the hands of billions for the price that doesn’t bite the pocket.
There aren’t any big, significant changes compared to its predecessor. The design itself is identical to the older phone. It borrows most of the specs from the Redmi 4A. The Redmi 5A comes with the same Snapdragon 425 processor and in two RAM/memory configurations: 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB. You can extend the storage up to 128GB with the dedicated microSD slot. There’s a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. It has a relatively big 3,000 mAh battery, but down from 3,120 mAh in Redmi 4A. The display remains the same 5 inch, 720p HD unit.
With the kind of specs and price, the Redmi 5A blows out a lot of competitors out of the water.
The 2GB variant of Redmi 5A will cost Rs.5,999 and the 3GB one will cost Rs.6,999. However, to make the deal sweeter, the first five million units of Redmi 5A 2GB variant will be sold for Rs.4,999, Rs.1000 less. There will be three colors to choose from: Gold, Rose Gold and Dark Grey. The first sale is slated for 7th December
