As you guys already know, 4G has picked up quite a good pace in India. Rather, India’s one of the major operators, Airtel, has launched 4G trials on a broad scale across the country. Many 4G phones have already flooded the market, too.
Microsoft has been a little late to jump the bandwagon and it doesn’t have many 4G phones either in the Indian market. It launched its first 4G phone in India, Lumia 638, few months back. Apparently, Microsoft has found a quick remedy to ease the whole situation. It is rolling out an update for its existing Lumia phones which would enable 4G radios inside. So the owners of these phones can relax. But there’s a catch. Since these phones were sold in India long back, even before 4G was a word here, these phones support just one of the two Indian 4G bands. As a result, 4G on Band 3 i.e. on FD-LTE (1800 MHz) only will be supported. Different carriers will use different bands for 4G across the country. So, if you’re lucky enough to be living in the cities where this band is used for 4G, you need not sell your Lumia yet.
The update is rolling out to the following phones:
Lumia 1520, Lumia 1320, Lumia 1020, Lumia 930, Lumia 925, Lumia 920, Lumia 830, and Lumia 625. All you need to do is check for the update and download it. Then enable 4G from Mobile and SIM settings.
