Just as promised last week, Sony Mobile has shared its plans about Android JellyBean 4.3 and Android KitKat 4.4 updates. Sony will start upgrading the following Xperia handsets launched in 2013 to Android JellyBean 4.3 from next month, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1. The first batch to receive the upgrade to Android KitKat 4.4 include Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1, although Sony have not shared any specific timeframe for the roll-out. It should come out around January-February next year. Sony will also update its Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V to Android JellyBean 4.3, which were launched in 2012. There’s no mention of these handset receiving the next major upgrade i.e. Android KitKat. So the JellyBean 4.3 should be the last update. Update will start rolling out for these devices from next month.
There wasn’t any mention of updates for Sony’s mid end devices such as Xperia M/L or Xperia C which were also launched this year. We’ll update you as and when Sony shares any news regarding them.
