Sony Updating Xperia Z Ultra, Z1 and Z1 Compact To Android KitKat

Kitkat

Sony has officially commenced the roll out of Android KitKat update to it’s top-end Xperia handsets, that is, Xperia Z series. The first lucky handsets to receive the KitKat update are Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra, Z1 and Z1 Compact.

The new update brings UI tweaks and performance optimization to the devices getting the update. It particularly adds customizable quick settings panel. This update will also (obviously) bump up Sony’s apps to newer versions with added tweaks and functionality. These apps include Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select, Smart Social Camera and Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies. Devices with new software will also get better integration of Sony Entertainment Network in media apps.

Sony has news for the owners of other Xperia handsets as well. In the next lot, Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will be receiving the Android KitKat update, which should become available in mid Q2 2014. That’s not all, Sony is keen on spreading the KitKat love to its low and mid range as well. It is also working on the KitKat update for Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia M2 and Xperia E1.

It’ll take some time for the update to appear on your handsets but now you know it’s coming to you for sure. If you receive the update, do let us know how you like it in comments below.
