Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium, two of the phones from Sony Xperia Z5 series have made it to India. With exorbitant pricing. Sony is literally asking a premium for its flagships.
Sony’s Xperia Z5 series was launched in September, and all of them surely have flagship grade specs. Xperia Z5 Premium is the first phone ever to feature an Ultra HD display. But does that mean it’s worth the price tag, especially in India? This is not the first time Sony India has priced its phones ridiculously. Xperia Z3+ and Xperia C5 Ultra were launched with hefty price tags as well. Android phones generally lose their value fast unlike iPhone, which retains it for the longest time. Selling an iPhone 6 is equal to Nexus 6P’s price in India. Every year Android flagships have tried to copy iPhone’s pricing in India, just to get bad sales and price cuts later.
The Xperia Z5 is priced at Rs. 52,990 (~$816), and Xperia Z5 Premium at whopping Rs. 62,990 (~$970). The poor Sony is already struggling to generate decent sales and such a pricing will just turn its potential away. If you still want to own one of these, Sony is also providing some finance options that will let you pay in EMIs after down payment of Rs.2,999 (~$46). Sony is also bundling its Quick Charger with both the phones. Buyers can redeem a smart cover worth Rs.3,500 (~$54) from Xperia Lounge. Those who pre-book Xperia Z5 Premium will get MDR-EX31BN worth Rs. 5490 (~$85) for free.
