Firefox OS running phones are finally a reality in Indian market. And boy who’s the first one to come here? It’s Spice Mobility’s Fire One Mi FX1, running on the Firefox OS. Its name is a bit long but let’s keep it for Spice to think about. Firefox OS running smartphones were supposed to be a lot cheaper, some expected them to come for just Rs.1500 ($25). Well,it’s not that cheap. It’s going to cost Rs.2300 (~$38).
It’s definitely not a groundbreaking device in terms of spec list. But we aren’t expecting that either from a smartphone that costs so little. So let’s have a look at Spice Fire One Mi FX1’s spec sheet. First of all it’s dual SIM enabled which is required in Indian market but runs only on 2G networks. It has a 3.5 inch HVGA display which is fair enough for this device. It has huge bezels but it’s acceptable. Just when you thought you couldn’t ask for more, Fire One also has twin cameras, 2MP shooter on the back and 1.3MP as front facing camera. It’s powered by a 1GHz single core processor. It also gets WiFi and Bluetooth as connectivity options along with usual EDGE support. This looks to us a well balanced product.
On the software side it features Single Window Search and Adaptive App Search. And there’s also Marketplace to get the apps you need. Spice is also giving a free silicon case with the phone. Spice along with Mozilla will launch the product on 29th August. Initially, it’ll be available exclusively on Snapdeal and later will be made available through other channels.
If this phone and the Firefox succeed here, both will change the equations in the featurephone market. Are you excited to swap your featurephone with Fire One? We’re definitely eager to try out the phone as soon as it lands here.
