You might have heard about new features for Windows 10 already that Microsoft announced today. And the exciting part of the it is the free upgrades for current users of Windows 7 and 8, it will be free only in the first year though. Since Microsoft announced its upgrade plans, many users were wondering if the Windows RT will get the Windows 10 update or not.
There haven’t been any definitive answers from Microsoft or its execs so far. Microsoft has its own Surface RT tablet running the Windows RT version along with other tablets such as Lumia 2520. On its Windows 10 page, Microsoft states that W10 upgrade will be available for qualified devices with an asterisk over it. That asterisk indeed brings a bad news for Windows RT users. In the footnote, Microsoft has made it clear that Windows RT/RT 8.1 will be excluded from the W10 upgrade along with Win 7 and Win 8/8.1 Enterprise editions. This means all the devices running on Windows RT/RT 8.1 will stay on the current version. But there could still be some hope if Microsoft changes its mind before the public release of the OS. Otherwise, Microsoft once again will have to face the anger of its users.
Microsoft or its partners probaby never sold Windows RT devices in huge numbers but leaving its faithful users behind is certainly not a good idea. It looks like Microsoft hasn’t learnt a thing after it denied WP8 to WP7 running phones causing users to outrage against it.
